About the film:

From Taiwan comes the wonderfully campy and critically acclaimed Formula 17, where the bookish, cute and quite gay 17-year-old Tien-Tsai heads from his small town to Taipei for the summer. Once in the big city, his childhood friend Yu tries to arrange for Tien-Tsai to lose his virginity, only to be confounded by Tien-Tsai's avowal that he must be in love first. Yu, drag queen CC, and fitness club manager Alan arrange for a variety of sexual encounters, all of which Tien-Tsai eschews (his favorite book is "Love Is a Kind of Faith"). Instead, Tien-Tsai falls for the notorious Taipei gay playboy Bai, who has an emotional luggage caravan of intimacy issues - and is infamous for his penchant for one-night stands. What's a cute boy to do? Will Tien-Tsai end up as another of Bai's one-night stands, or will Bai be able to articulate his feelings of love?

Director D.J. Chen juggles comedy and angst like a circus pro, Tony Yang is convincing as the lovestruck Tien-Tsai, and Chin King steals the show as the hilarious gossip queen Yu. (English, Mandarin and Cantonese with English subtitles)

to Ryan, Sirreene and Trudging:
Just now I came home from the cinema, "Formula 17" is a marvellous film about the young love of two cute boys, the film-director is a young Chinese woman, Yin-Jun Chen who satirizes as well the gay porno-industry as the asiatic cinema of the Chinese Myths too ... the root of the matter is the empathetic love-story of Tien, a student from the province and Bai, a gay-playboy from the metropolis Taipeh ...

Tomorrow I'll write something about this film in a new post!
Good night!
